However I recommend the book to those looking for an emotional growth story without an emphasis on sex as in none, nada, zero. I did not find the narrator pleasing to listen to. Wearied by the world, Lucas Calvert, Earl of Annesbury, is tired of. The courts are on his side, unless she marries someone willing to stand in her late husband's place. Her late husband's unscrupulous brother demands guardianship of her sons. The children’s reaction to the loss of a parent felt realistic and not contrived. 'Lady Virginia Macon, the recently widowed Baroness of Heatherton, has an impossible decision to make. The romance was a bit of a long slow process with each lead reconciling their past loss before being able to move on. The characters were engaging and likable. The author did a good job of demonstrating the impact of loss on a person’s and/or family’s life. Both the male and female leads lost a spouse before they met and the plot was driven by grieving custom restrictions and the emotional turmoil of the loss of a loved one. This book provides a look at grieving processes, customs, and norms of the regency period (I think the action took place during that time frame). The grieving process has evolved through history and it is interesting to compare todays process with the 1700-1800s process.
